Manchester’s reign as the UK’s events capital isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Fresh off the back of a hugely successful 2026 show, The BRIT Awards have confirmed they’ll be returning to Manchester in 2027, with the city’s Co-op Live once again hosting the biggest night in British music. The 2027 event will also celebrate 50 years of The BRIT Awards.

While Manchester has always been one of the UK’s great music cities, this feels like another major milestone. For decades, events of this scale were almost automatically handed to London. Now, Manchester isn’t just competing with the capital – it’s winning.

The 2026 BRIT Awards proved exactly why; the event generated global attention, brought thousands of visitors into the city and delivered record-breaking audience figures for the awards.

The Co-Op Live only opened in 2024, and in just a couple of years it has transformed Manchester’s ability to attract major events, becoming the largest indoor arena in the UK and one of the most ambitious venues in Europe. From global music tours to internationally recognised award ceremonies, Co-op Live has quickly established itself as a venue capable of competing with anything London has to offer.

The arena forms part of the wider transformation taking place around the Etihad Campus. What was once primarily known as Manchester City’s home has evolved into one of the city’s most important regeneration success stories, attracting investment, creating jobs and drawing millions of visitors to East Manchester every year.

Just a short distance from Co-op Live sits Holt Town, which also has plans for regeneration – thousands of new homes, new green spaces, commercial space and improved transport connections, helping to create an entirely new neighbourhood between the city centre and the Etihad Campus.

Taken together, it’s easy to see why Manchester continues to attract events that would previously have gone straight to London. The city now has the infrastructure, the venues, the transport links and, perhaps most importantly, the reputation.

The BRIT Awards returning for a second consecutive year is another sign of that shift. Whether it’s music, sport, business or culture, Manchester is increasingly becoming the destination of choice for major events.

A decade ago, the idea of The BRIT Awards leaving London would have seemed unlikely.

Today, it feels completely natural that they’re here in Manchester.
